Dr. Alexander Strawn is a Phoenix, Arizona–based trumpet performer, educator, and arts leader. He currently serves as Principal Trumpet of the 108th "Arizona's Own" Army Band, where he performs regularly with the concert band, jazz big band, and brass quintet. In addition to his performing duties, Dr. Strawn serves as one of Arizona's primary military ceremonial buglers, providing honors at military funerals and official ceremonies throughout the state.

Beyond his military service, Dr. Strawn performs as Second Trumpet with the Arizona Pops Orchestra and is an active advocate for music education and community engagement. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Salt River Brass Band, Arizona's premiere British-style brass band, where he also works as Assistant Director of the Salt River Youth Band, helping to develop the next generation of brass musicians.

A distinguished performer, Dr. Strawn was one of three finalists for the President’s Own Marine Band in Washington D.C. He was awarded Second Prize at the National Society of Arts and Letters National Competition in 2026 and earned placement on the prestigious Commandant's List at the U.S. Army School of Music, an honor reserved for the top 1% of graduates. Through his performance, education, and leadership activities, Dr. Strawn remains committed to advancing musical excellence and enriching the cultural life of Arizona and beyond.

As a freelance orchestral musician, Dr. Strawn has performed with numerous professional ensembles throughout the United States. He has appeared as a substitute musician with the Phoenix Symphony, New Mexico Philharmonic, Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, and Arizona Musicfest Orchestra, in addition to frequent performances with a variety of regional orchestras and performing arts organizations throughout the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. His versatility as a performer has enabled him to maintain an active career spanning orchestral, chamber, ceremonial, jazz, and commercial performance settings.

Dr. Strawn holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He earned both his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from Arizona State University, where he pursued advanced studies in trumpet performance and developed a commitment to both artistic excellence and music education.
